Encounter Closed: Overview
The encounter closed status indicates that the acute facility sent an admission event with no follow-up discharge message. To ensure that you are not seeing extremely long visit durations represented on your dashboard, Pings automatically closes some hospital encounters if we do not receive a subsequent update from the hospital; presented encounters are closed after 5 days and observation encounters are closed after 7 days.
If we receive further information for a closed encounter, such as a transfer or discharge message, we will remove the encounter closed events and update the patient’s current status accordingly.
You will not receive a Ping notifying you that Pings has closed the patient's encounter.
Encounter Closed Status in Pings
An encounter closed status will appear on:
1. The patient's card
2. In the patient profile under encounter history
3. In your export
